A post for Age of Empires II has fuelled speculation that Microsoft’s popular strategy game could be coming to PlayStation consoles. One player claimed to have participated in a multiplayer match in the Definitive Edition, and another player’s platform was listed as ‘PlayStation’.

While it’s an as-yet-unofficial claim, it dovetails with Microsoft’s previous hints. The company was rumoured to be considering releasing the Definitive Edition on rival consoles in early 2025 through its Project Latitude initiative.

First released for PC in 1999, Age of Empires II gained a dedicated player base. Released in 2019, the Definitive Edition features 4K visuals, revised controls and an expanded multiplayer mode.

Last minute warning from Nvidia about vulnerability

Security vulnerabilities have been found for NVIDIA graphics cards. The latest update released by the company fixes these vulnerabilities.

The game has also received a plethora of content updates from developer Forgotten Empires. Coming out on 14 November, Chronicles: Battle for Greece will add six new civilisations through expansion packs.

The PlayStation version could introduce the game to an even wider audience. While the RTS genre has lost popularity among console gamers in recent years, the Definitive Edition removes many of the obstacles that make it difficult to control with a gamepad. Simplified controls could make gameplay much more accessible.

With over 30 million players, the Age of series still resonates in the strategy world. Time will tell if there will be a PlayStation launch for the Definitive Edition.
